Coughing up #1

‘March 24, 1985.

Our school closed today! The sky is crystal clear. The summer months are approaching slowly.I can’t wait to go out and pluck the juicy and ripened mangoes! They are much yellower this year! The aam(mango) tree cannot stand straight because of their weight! I will also pluck some for ma(mom) and dadi(grandma) Golu and preeti will be arriving soon.’

Kia closed the dairy and kept it on her bed side table. Were mangoes available on trees, back then? Kia thought. She had begun her chemistry classes just this year. They were taught how to make fruits from various gasses and metals! She had made a small, purple mango! But, it didn’t taste that good. It was a bit sour! She wondered if yellow mangoes, that were available on trees tasted better! Soon, It was evening. Kia accompanied her mom to the plant shop. It wasn’t any ordinary nursery! From trees that give screw drivers to trees that gave pens, all kinds of trees were available. Kia directly went to her favourite section, which contained perfumed saplings. She loved the cupcake scented ones! They also bought some oxygen bottles and pet food capsules from the department store. Oxygen was becoming costly day by day! They came home and Moochi wagged her tail in excitement! It was time for her pet capsules! While feeding Moochi, Kia asked her “ Did the kid in the diary bought oxygen tanks like us?, If they had, I bet it wouldn’t have been much costly”. Moochi gave her a mow in response. Kia was certainly full of questions. They were the questions that only the diary could answer!

  2. I really loved the diary part. The mango tree can’t stand straight because of it’s weight. Lovely. I wanted more from that diary😊😊 the food in capsule, air in oxygen mask and the fruits with chemicals are all too scary. I hope we start giving more value to nature and leave a better world for future generations.

  3. Great post 🙂 I really liked how you took us into your sci-fi world without directly telling us it was the future and oxygen is now a scarcer resource needing payment. Very good use of show don’t tell and a good intro into the kind of atmosphere. I’m going to do some nitpicking if you don’t mind because constructive criticism can be helpful. Fruit is plural and I’m not a fan of the use of exvlamation marks but I’m going to go ahead and assume its to heighten a childlike sense of wonder so in that context I think it works well as long as its not overdone.

Would love some feedback on my blog if you have time 🙂 keep up the good work 🙂

Hades ate my sandwich

Yes, the greek god of death ate my sandwich and may even have stolen a ketchup bottle or two. That dude is such a kleptomaniac.
